Bondi Beach Australia

Bondi Beach Australia is one of the most popular beaches in Sydney. Bondi Beach is known for great surfing, excellent walking and mostly sunny days. It is a small wonder that Bondi Beach Australia is a premier destination for tourists.

Surf Lifesaving, a voluntary lifeguard service in Bondi Beach Australia, gives different hazard ratings to Bondi Beach, depending on which side of the beach you are. The northern side tends to get a 4 rating. This side has gentle waves and is good for swimmers. The southern side rates as a 7 and is a mecca for surfing.

Bondi Beach Australia has some great scenic walks for the walking enthusiasts among you. The Bondi Beach to Bronte walk is approximately 2.5 km each way. This is a medium grade walk with toilets, picnic areas, kiosks and barbeque sites available. A point of interest on this walk is Bondi Pavilion. This is a Mediterranean Georgian Revival-style building which was built in 1929. When it was first constructed the Pavilion had dressing rooms for about 12,000 people. It also had shops, Turkish baths, a gymnasium and a ballroom. Today the Pavilion has lockers, showers, changing rooms, a theatre and a gallery which has entertainment for children as well as some classes.

The second walk is the Bronte Beach to the Waverly cemetery walk. This walk is approximately 2.8 km. It is also medium grade and options include picnic areas, barbeque sites, kiosks and toilets. A point of interest is the Bronte Baths where you can still take a dip in formal baths. Another point of interest is the “bogey hole” which is located next to the baths. This is a natural swimming hole you can cool down in on your walk. Finish up your walk at Waverly Cemetery which was established in 1877 and contains graves of famous Australians such as Henry Kendall and Dorothea Mackellar.

Either walk is fun to do. With beautiful scenery like the Pacific Ocean, the sound of waves crashing and gulls crying it is a walk that all will enjoy. There are cafes on either end where you can treat yourself after your walk with an ocean view, a cool drink and fine meal.

Bondi Beach Australia hosts Sculpture by the Sea which is Australia’s biggest yearly outdoor sculpture exhibition. Over 50 artists participate in this event which is held every summer (in the Southern Hemisphere). By visiting Bondi Beach Australia during this time you will be able to see their coastal walk altered into a seaside art exhibit. Over 100 art exhibits are lined up with the beautiful Australian sea as the backdrop.

The City to Surf Fun Run is also hosted at Bondi Beach Australia. This popular race covers 14 km and is enjoyed by runners and walkers alike. The fun run is the largest timed race in the world. A record high of 76,254 runners participated in 2009. The race has participants from all walks of life such as serious runners, people in wheelchairs and people pushing strollers. Amateur bands perform along the route and many participants dress in themed costumes.
